It is 7:00 pm in Capri and we have just gotten back to the hotel after a full day. We hiked down to the beach, and when I say hiked, I mean HIKED! It it a 300 meter hike down a cliff to the beaches outside of our hotel. I wish I could tell you what that is in miles or feet but alas, my conversion chart is at home and my Italian is not good enough to ask! Ha! Not only did we hike down and up once but twice...we forgot our money for lunch the first time, whoops! The beach is nothing like a beach we have here. There is no sand anywhere. They set up chairs or matresses with towels on them on the rocks for you to sit and relax. We were in awe just to look at the water! So blue. When you're ready to swim, you climb down the steps carved out of the rocks to the water where there is a ladder that leads down into the Mediteranean Sea. Kinda crazy! They say the water is around 80 degrees...they lie. It is close to 70, maybe! But the sun is hot and you definitely get warm enough to want to brave to cool water temps. Outside of the water, we had some of the best people watching we have ever encountered!
This afternoon we took a boat tour around the entire island with quite possibly the most talented boat driver ever. We have some video to prove it. He could drive us right into a Grotto without hitting the sides of the boat so we could get pictures. Again, I could never imagine actually experiencing these things! Quite amazing. We stayed down on the beach until close to 6:00. The sun stays out until around 7:00 so it is easy to lose track of time.
Tonight we are planning to go back into the Square, which is where all of the shops and restaurants are, to eat dinner. It is more crowded today since it is the beginning of the weekend.
Tomorrow we will spend the morning here in Capri, probably at the beach again to get one more dose of paradise before we head back to Naples (Think Harlem on Crack...Yes, Chris, I get the irony) to catch the train to Florence. We hope to find a place to write there.
We miss you terribly and hope you all have a good weekend! (if anyone is reading this: ) -K&L

Hi Girls!
ReplyDeleteStill on dial-up so I hope I get this right the first time!!
Your trip sounds amazing, of course it pales in comparison to my HS reunion. Saw some old friends, had terrible food and listened to the slow slow music from the 40's!
I would love to see the beach there. The food must be wonderful. I can't wait for you to cook some of these delightful dishes at home!
I am going to plan a trip there some day.
FL. won their game today!
Hope to be back in the land of wireless soon.
Be safe. Love you and miss you so much.
